In traditional tension monitoring systems, the load is measured by a “load pin” which forms the shaft element of a rotation connection point. With this design the measuring element is integral with the load element which means that to change the sensor the joint has to be fully disassembled which is hugely costly subsea.
The Flintstone slave beam separates the functionality such that the sensor element is removable from the load element. The slave beam is locked into the load pin such that the joint does not need to be fully disassembled.
