ILMT - Tensioning
Challenge Improve Deliver
The in-line tensioner is an ongoing development arising from work with Shell on the Vito project and then Tullow.
The benefits of in line tensioning is to take the tensioning operation away from the hull which provides an increased level of safety keeping marine operations at a distance. It also reduces weight by eliminating need for chain jacks and fairleads at the hull where these are not required for regular platform moves.
The latest work shows how the geometry has been improved to result in a major weight reduction and to reduce the amount of uplift required before the wheel rotates.
