Friction Test
Bearing materials for rotating joints within bearing systems need to be able to ensure a complex loading pattern spending most of their lives dealing with very small rotations at low loads and then, adverse weather conditions needing to cope with much greater rotations at significantly higher loads.
The purpose of the Flintstone bearing qualifications programme was to ensure that we have a full understanding of the material properties and effect of geometry and tolerances as well as basic material properties. The friction test establishes the friction coefficient at different loads and in different environments both wet and dry.
The date enables Flintstone to optimise bearing diameters in order that the lever arm lengths required to overcome friction are minimised.
